Petros Shoujounian

Bio/Works



Petros Shoujounian was born in Soviet Armenia in 1957, where he received his first musical training in violin and composition. He studied first at the Komitas Music School, then at the Gara Mourza Music College. At the age of eleven he began to lean toward composition, writing works for violin.

Petros emigrated to Montreal in 1976, continuing his musical studies at the Conservatoire de Musique du Quebec at Montreal with composer Gilles Tremblay. He received his Master of Music degree in composition in 1982, and later served as a lecturer for the Universite du Quebec a Montreal. He has composed many works for full orchestra and choir, string orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, and voice.
