Matthew Easton

Biographical Material


Matthew Easton (b.1955) received his Master of Fine Arts degree in music composition from the California Institute of the Arts, where his teachers included Morton Subotnick, Stephen Mosko, and Morton Feldman. He has received grants from the California Arts Council and Meet the Composer.

Easton's interest in composing with non-musical elements has led him to perform in works requiring stylized speech and movement. He has been a guest performer with the experimental theater group Le Mômo, and during 1986-87 gave over 250 performances in elementary schools as "Mr. Wizard's Assistant" in Don Herbert's science show The World of Energy.

Easton counts among his most significant life experiences his years of teaching music and self-help skills to autistic adults. His current passion is fly fishing.
